Friday Night Leafs

We are the Friday Night Leafs and we are celebrating 50+ years as a club. We are a bunch of hard core hockey players getting together friday nights to play our favourite sport. We are die hard Leaf fans with a handful of players who may support other teams. If you don’t find us playing hockey friday night it must mean we’re out on the golf course.

2018 / 2019 Friday Night Leafs Season

Season Opener Oct. 25, 2019

2019/2020 FNL Players,

Welcome to the 52nd. season, of the Friday Night Leafs Hockey Club (1967-2019). A special thanks to our founder Dave Kosloff for starting the FNL.

Our season starts Friday, October 25th (Iroquois Pad #4 at 10:15pm).
All alumni are invited to attend!

There will be 25 games (schedule attached). The cost this year is as follows:

A)   Full Time - $315 (ie. $13/game)
B)   10 game Flex Pack - $170 (ie. $17/game)
C)   Pay as you Play - $20/game

This year’s road trip will be to Montreal to see the Leafs vs Habs (and have our 3 on 3 tournament) on February 7th - 9th. This event is currently sold out (let me know if you want to be put on a waiting list in case a spot opens up.)

Please bounce me back and let me know:

1)   If you will be playing this year, and which payment option you prefer.
2)   If you have any buddies who want to play this year - we are always looking for additional skaters.

      Last year’s teams will remain in place for the 1st half of the season. There will be a “draft” at the Christmas party to pick new teams for the 2nd half of the season with the goalies being the captains again (per FNL bylaw BC1 i..e. “the Bill Carr rule”).

Please bring a cheque or cash on October 25th if you will be Full Time or buying a Flex Pack. You can also send a funds transfer to km.gleeson@sympatico.ca and use the password leafs (all in lower case/small letters).

Season Opener

Town of Whitby - Iroquois Park Sports Centre, Whitby, ON, Canada

A fight for the first goal of the season started out with what seemed to be a very even match up. This is when the Blue team started to dominate. After the first goal the flood gates were open with the Blue team continued scoring another six goals before the White team was able to figure out how to score on the Blue team’s goalie, but it was to little to late the Blue team went on to win the game 16-8.

Game 2

Redemption

Game two, the White team came out with a score to settle, determined to win! While playing 4 on 4 with the twins and dad on the ice for White, Blue was in for a heap of trouble. White pushed hard scoring lots. While the Blue team managed to score, they would stay a few goals behind, they were tired. Final score 12-8 for White.

Game 3

Back and forth

With everyone getting there legs back this game was fast and hard back and forth. Blue had a clear speed advantage this week. In this low scoring game the die hards continued to play into the 4th period where the score ended up being an 8-4 victory for Blue.

Game 5

"It's a BLOWOUT!"

With almost everyone scoring at least once on the White team, they completely over powered the Blue Machine tonight. The score was 11 - 6 and Blue did not give up so to make it interesting last goal wins! Final score White 12, Blue 6.
I here the Commish was on the phone setting up an extra practice tomorrow morning for the Blue team.

Game 6

Pay Back!!

This game promised to be an exciting one. After a short while into this game and no score the Commish made a trade to try and even things up a bit, trading Gilmour for one of the Morgans. It seemed to be a good trade, with Scotty scoring a couple goals to make things close. Last weeks spanking of the Blue team seemed to motivate them, but not strong enough, keeping Jason Clarke off the score board. The goalies were hot! The white team responded back with a quick few goals. The Blue Machine fought back right away taking the lead. It was back and forth from there with the Blue team maintaining that lead until the score was 6-6. The White team powered through to take the lead and won this one with a final score of 8 - 6.
The Commish left this one hoping the two week beark would give his Blue team the time they need to bounce back while he is away.

Disappointment in Leafs Nation tonight.

Game 7

On the pond.

This one was played at Luther Vipond Memorial Arena. Although not a big rink, it was like playing 60 minutes of overtime, playing 3 on 3, with 2 and 3 on the bench. The goalies saw lots of pucks tonight, and missed seeing some of them to. With lots of open ice there were many breakaways and lots of scoring. Not 100% sure what the score was at the end of this one, but I believe it ended 15-13 for White.

December 1^st., 2017

Game 8

Another early start. Appartently to early for me.

This one started just as I got there, so when I made it out to the ice the Commish traded me to the White team as they were down a player. They were also down two goals, it was two nothing for Blue. But that didn’t last long White scored, then we scored again tying it up. Everyone was playing their best trying to empress the goalies who would be drafting new teams after our next few games.
Yes, it was a very close game, but the White team pulled away after the 5^th. goal, they ended up winning this one 9 - 6. I guess the Commish didn’t count on me scoring a goal and getting a few assists tonight.

Game 9

Boy oh boy! I think this one will be exciting.

Back at Iroquois tonight, wow what a start, the Blue team came out strong with having sometihing to prove. Back on Blue again this week I showed the commish that, thats where I belong, with a nice pass from Jason (not Justin - Dave) from behind the net, the score was one zipp. Before they knew it the White team was down a few goals, so they turned it up and started scoring. The deficet continued as Blue also continued to score. This one is in the books with Blue winning 8 - 6.

Game 11

Playing for the Draft.

With lots of young blood out tonight, his one seemed to be quick and quiet an even match, but Blue started dominating early and scoring lots. With young Marcus on the White team this one wasn’t over as the White team game back from a big deficit to briefly take the lead. This one went into overtime finishing up in a 15 - 15 tie. What a game! The goalies earned their wings tonight.

X-Mas Party / Draft Night!

Players, Alumni and Fans,
We will be having our Christmas party at Melanie Pringles with free wings on the Commish after our friday night’s game (10:15pm PAD#4 Iroquois as usual).
With teams being so evenly matched this year a draft for the 2nd half of the season was not necessary.
If you cannot make it out, the Commish and the Board of Directors of the Friday Night Leafs (FNL) Hockey Club wish you a safe and happy Christmas.

Road Trip to Ottawa

Here are the travel details for Gleeson’s guys and the weekend itinerary for the whole gang:

9:30am	•	Leave at 10am sharp from Tim Hortons @ 350 Waverly Road, Bowmanville/Hwy 401 (same as last year)
1:45pm	•	Lunch at “The Prescott” in Ottawa - 379 Preston St. - Mike’s old stomping grounds (David’s guys are welcome to join us)
4:15pm - 5:15pm	•	Shinny at Richcraft SensPlex - Arena 2 813 Shefford Road, Ottawa (player evaluation camp/scrimmage😊)
Check-in	•	Courtyard Marriott - 350 Dalhousie St. (in the Byward Market restaurant/entertainment district, downtown Ottawa)
7:30pm	•	Dinner and Team Draft for Saturday’s 3 on 3 tournament Sens House Sports Bar - 73 York St., Ottawa (Byward Market, right behind hotel - same as last year)

12:00pm-2:00pm	•	3 on 3 tournament (Belltown Dome Arena) 2915 Haughton Ave, Ottawa (30 min drive from hotel) This is a cold rink - bring some long johns and a second warm upper layer just in case
	•	Return to hotel (30 min drive)
4:45pm	•	Bus at Courtyard Marriott for Leafs vs Sens game at the Canadian Tire Centre Bus departs at 5:00pm sharp.
5:30pm	•	Dinner reservations at the rink
7:00pm	•	Game on !

Game 15

Let’s see, who can still play after Ottawa. Well those that still managed to come out had a great 4 on 4 game. Although the teams seemed evenly, matched White was able to bury the puck many more times. They were leading 6 - 0 before Blue had a two on one rush with Greedy to Gilmour they managed to score. After that both teams continued scoring, the final score was 12 - 6 for White.
After the game it was reported, the Commish had heard a few guys were still recovering after Ottawa and he also heard that after his team’s upset loss, Bugden had taken quite a razzing on the way home, so much so that he was still there licking his wounds and no one knows when he will recover.
